London Optometrist -What To Expect When You Visit An Optometrist

0

If you have never seen a London optometrist before you may not know what to expect at your first visit. This is nothing you or your child should be nervous about at all. Everything will be done to keep you comfortable and you should not expect any pain.

The first thing that an London optometrist will do is sit down and talk to you about your general health. If you are suffering from any chronic conditions such as diabetes or cancer, these can affect your vision and he needs to know about them. He’ll also ask some routine questions about your eyesight, your lifestyle and daily habits to help determine the state of your eyes and how much eyestrain you may be experiencing.

Vision test

You will be given a test of your vision using a special piece of equipment that has lenses inside it. You will have to read letters off of the board from a distance and as you are doing so the London optometrist will select different lenses for viewing. This shows the optometrist whether you may need any vision correction or not.

Some optometrists use eye drops during this procedure to dilate your pupils. These drops are not painful, but if you are driving you will need to wear sunglasses on the way home. A pair of clip-on plastic lenses are provided by the office and you can simply place them on your glasses. A cheap pair of sunglasses will be provided if you don’t already wear glasses.

The London optometrist will also do a test to see the curvature of your eye’s cornea and make a measurement of your eye’s angle of vision. If you are an adult patient the optometrist will also test for glaucoma using a pressure test.

Vision Correction

After these tests are performed he will let you know whether you need vision correction or if there are any other problems with your eyes that need to be corrected. At this point he can discuss your options and answer any of your questions about glasses and contacts.

Once you have gone to see a London optometrist once you’ll know what to expect at your next appointments. You can expect to stay in the office approximately half an hour for a regular appointment.
